The Heartmenders Charity Foundation has reiterated its commitment to supporting vulnerable families and easing the hardship faced by low income households through sustained humanitarian interventions.
The foundation made the commitment during its seventh community outreach programme held at Deji Olamiju Street, Soluyi, Ifako, Gbagada, Lagos, where more than 50 households, including 30 women and 100 children, received various forms of assistance.
Speaking at the event, the Founder and Executive Director of the foundation, Mary Fidelis Essien, called for stronger partnerships between government, humanitarian organisations, corporate bodies and individuals to enable more vulnerable Nigerians to benefit from welfare and empowerment initiatives.
She said the prevailing economic situation had made life increasingly difficult for many families, particularly women and children, stressing that collaborative efforts were necessary to identify those in need and provide meaningful support.
Essien said the foundation was committed to going beyond periodic donations by supporting vulnerable nursing mothers and families in underserved communities with basic necessities that could improve their quality of life.
Beneficiaries at the outreach received clothes, food items, liquid soaps, drinks, baby food and medical supplies, among other essential materials.
Essien also urged the government to implement policies that would create more opportunities for Nigerians to earn sustainable incomes and reduce the pressure caused by the rising cost of living.
She expressed appreciation to the organisations and businesses that supported the outreach, including Drug Aid Africa, Menitos Charity Foundation, Kachman, Cadbury Bournvita Nigeria, Bless Wigs, Rybles Educonsult, J & J Multipurpose Enterprises, Mycela and Mums First Choice.
The foundation’s founder appealed to other organisations, corporate bodies and well meaning Nigerians to join the initiative, noting that wider support would enable the foundation to extend its reach to more communities.
Some beneficiaries, while expressing gratitude for the intervention, described the gesture as timely and valuable, particularly at a period when many households are struggling to meet their basic needs.
They called on government, private organisations and individuals to support more initiatives of this nature, saying greater collaboration would help reduce the hardship confronting vulnerable families across the country.
