GTBank Staff Allegedly Steals Customer’s N8.4M… Remanded In Ikoyi Prison

Abidemi Wasiu, a staff of Guaranty Trust Bank Plc, Osogbo, Osun State branch, has been arraigned before a Lagos State magistrate court for allegedly stealing the sum of N8,449,000 from the accounts of two customers of the bank.

The 34-year-old suspect was ordered arrested by the DPO in charge of Bar Beach Police division, CSP Olusegun Ajamolaya following a complaint by the management of the Guaranty Bank Plc, headquarters at Victoria Island, Lagos.

It was reliably gathered that after investigation by Inspector Churchill Akujiobi and his team, the accused was arraigned before an Igbosere magistrate’s court, Lagos on a three count charge of felony to wit: stealing.

According to Police prosecutor, Sgt. Friday Mammeh, informed the court in charge No. J/25/2017 that the accused committed the alleged offense between November 2016 and April, 2017 during working hours at the GT Bank Plc headquarters at Victoria Island, Lagos.

He told the court that the accused, without authority, unlawfully withdrew the sum of N4 million from the account of GT Bank Plc customer, Ogunmade Victoria and N4,449,000 from the account of Olalekan Abiola and transferred the money to the accounts of his friends, Ojeleye Tawakalitu and Wisdom Marshal Njoku from where he withdrew all the money and shared it with them.

He said further that the offenses the accused committed are punishable under sections 411, 337(a) and 287(7) of the criminal laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.

The accused, however, denied the police allegations in the open court and magistrate Mr. O. O. Owunmi admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum.

The magistrate also directed that the two sureties must deposit the sum of N200,000 each with the court registrar and adjourned the case till 6 June, 2017 for mention.

The suspect was remanded in Ikoyi Prison, Lagos pending when he will be able to fulfill his bail conditions.
