The House of Representatives has passed four tax reform bills following extensive deliberations and public consultations.
The bills, which were initially sent to the National Assembly by the Executive in October 2024, went through a clause-by-clause consideration at the Committee of the Whole last Thursday before being passed through the third reading on Tuesday.
The approved bills include:
•Nigeria Tax Administration Bill (HB.1756)
•Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Bill (HB.1757)
•Joint Revenue Board Bill (HB.1758)
•Nigeria Tax Bill (HB.1759)
The proposed reforms sparked controversy and skepticism among various groups, individuals, and regions, prompting a public hearing to address concerns and incorporate diverse perspectives.
The House Committee on Finance reviewed and refined the bills, leading to amendments, deletions, and the introduction of new sections before final approval.
