Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has outlined a series of initiatives aimed at empowering women, promoting environmental sustainability, and supporting vulnerable communities across the country.

The various programs, which will be executed under the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), include the “Flow with Confidence” project, designed to provide disposable sanitary pads to girls nationwide, ensuring they can remain in school during their menstrual cycles.

Under this initiative, each state, including the FCT, will receive 10,000 cartons of disposable sanitary pads.

Senator Oluremi Tinubu also emphasized environmental sustainability, announcing the establishment of climate change clubs in secondary schools and tertiary institutions.

The goal is to encourage students to engage in climate action, waste management, and recycling, with an ultimate vision of setting up a recycling plant in each state to help combat plastic pollution.

“We don’t have to be intimidated by the quantity of waste we see around us, but we must get going and do something about it. We are starting now,” she stated.

Additionally, the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) will support 250 persons with disabilities in each state with a ₦200,000 grant to help recapitalize their existing businesses.

While highlighting RHI’s achievements over the past two years, the First Lady noted that the initiative has significantly impacted various sectors, including: Empowerment of women farmers, Scholarships for indigent students, Provision of professional kits to midwives in the North Central and North West geopolitical zones, Relief materials and financial support for disaster victims, ICT training for women nationwide, Establishment of Alternative High Schools for Girls and Support for the elderly and distribution of food items to vulnerable groups

Speaking to journalists after the first quarter meeting with wives of governors, Senator Oluremi Tinubu stressed the importance of collective efforts in driving national development.

When asked about her priorities for the year, she emphasized that every issue in the country is important and must be addressed holistically.

“Everything, everything—there is no priority. For instance, with the ‘Flow with Confidence’ initiative, we still have to manufacture the sanitary towels. We are working to produce them locally, which will create jobs and boost our economy.”

She also encouraged students in tertiary institutions, especially those studying environmental and biological sciences, to actively participate in sustainability efforts.

Furthermore, she urged Nigerian youths to embrace hard work, emphasizing that diligence and perseverance are key to overcoming challenges.

“Hard work is one of the tenets that lifted us out of poverty. Faith without works is dead—go and work, work for this country. Let this country grow.”

Also present at the meeting were: Hajia Nana Shettima, Wife of the Vice President and National Vice Chairman of RHI, Mrs. Salamatu Gbajabiamila, Wife of the Chief of Staff to the President and Board Member of RHI.
