February 11, 2025, marks the second anniversary of Amb. (Dr.) Sani Salisu Danmuttaqa’s reign as Sarkin Samarin Yamma of the 17 Southern States of Nigeria, a period defined by cultural revival, youth empowerment, and strong advocacy for social development.
Reflecting on his journey since his installation in 2023, Amb. Danmuttaqa expressed gratitude to Allah SWT for the opportunity to serve, acknowledging both the challenges and triumphs along the way. His tenure has been pivotal in preserving Arewa royal traditions, fostering unity among diverse communities, and empowering the youth.
Under his leadership, the Arewa chieftaincy system in the southern states has experienced a renewed sense of pride, with young people embracing their rich cultural heritage and traditional rulers strengthening their institutions. He emphasized that diversity should be celebrated, not feared, as a pathway to national unity and progress.
Amb. Danmuttaqa also reaffirmed his commitment to peacebuilding and ensuring that the Arewa community in the South remains a strong, unified force for positive change. His work aligns with the leadership vision of HRH (Dr.) Malam Haruna Maiyasin Katsina, CON, Sarkin Sasa, and Chairman of Arewa Traditional Rulers and Chiefs in the 17 Southern States.
One of the most notable achievements of his reign has been the fight against drug abuse. Through the Sarkin Samarin Yamma Development Initiative (SSY-DI), he has actively campaigned against substance abuse, mentored young people, and supported the less privileged. In collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), he launched an initiative in Lagos to curb drug trafficking and addiction.
His strong stance on the issue is evident in his advocacy for capital punishment for drug offenders, a move aimed at deterring illicit drug activities and safeguarding future generations. These efforts have helped rescue countless youths from the grip of addiction and inspired communities to take a stand against the menace.
In a show of inter-ethnic unity, Amb. Danmuttaqa extended his warm congratulations to the Sarkin Yarbawa of Katsina State on his installation as the Aare Yoruba of Arewa of the 19 Northern States of Nigeria by the Executive Governor of Katsina State. He described the appointment as a welcome development that strengthens cooperation between traditional institutions across regional lines.
As he commemorates this milestone, Amb. Danmuttaqa expressed profound appreciation to his well-wishers, supporters, Northern Traditional Youth Chiefs, and family for their unwavering support. He dedicated this anniversary to Hajiya Ummi Muhammad, Sarauniyan Matan Yamma, and Maulana Sheik Amb. Dr. Shehu Jimoh Abdulkadir, Sarkin Quadiriya of Afrika, recognizing their selflessness and leadership as an inspiration.
Quoting the Quranic verse: “Allah gives power to whom He wills” (Surah Al-Imran, Verse 26), he reaffirmed his belief that leadership is a divine trust and pledged to continue working for the progress and prosperity of his people.
As he looks ahead, Amb. Danmuttaqa remains committed to deepening the impact of his initiatives, fostering greater unity, and building a brighter future for the youth of Arewa in the southern states.
