The Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso’s claim that he will significantly cut APC’s votes in the state during the 2027 elections, labeling it as “wishful thinking.”
In a statement on Thursday, APC state chairman Abdullahi Abbas described Kwankwaso as a “political refugee” clinging to Governor Abba Yusuf to remain relevant after reportedly being ousted from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
“Kwankwaso should stop daydreaming and face reality. His overblown confidence in reducing APC’s votes in Kano is laughable. Our party remains the people’s choice,” Abbas stated.
He accused Kwankwaso of benefiting from manipulated votes in the 2023 elections, warning that such tactics would not succeed in 2027. “Kwankwaso has been rejected by the NNPP due to his self-centeredness and is now wandering aimlessly in the political landscape,” he added.
Abbas assured Kano residents that the APC is focused on reclaiming the state, liberating it from what he called Kwankwaso’s undue influence. He criticized Kwankwaso’s tenure and accused him of using his “castle on Miller Road” to manipulate politics in the state.
This response comes after Kwankwaso vowed to reduce APC’s votes to less than 15,000 in the next elections during a meeting with stakeholders from Tsanyawa Local Government Area. Kwankwaso claimed his team’s efforts in 2023 sidelined the PDP and attracted defectors from the APC.
The political rivalry between APC and Kwankwaso’s camp continues to intensify as both sides gear up for the 2027 elections.
