At least one thousand residents of Apapa-Iganmu and its environs have benefitted from the free food items distributed by the former APC Lagos Central Woman Leader, Chief Mrs. Fadekemi Otitonaiye.
In addition to the food items, which included rice, beans, and garri, beneficiaries also received cash support during the third edition of the Chief Mrs. Fadekemi Otitonaiye Foundation initiative, held at Marian Academy, off Gaskiya College Road.
Speaking during the distribution of the food items, Mrs. Otitonaiye, who is the Iyalode of Marine Beach Community and the Golden Mother of Apapa-Iganmu, said the gesture was in support of the Renewed Hope Initiative of the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
According to her, there is a need for wealthy Nigerians and corporate bodies to support government efforts in improving the lives of the people, noting that it may be challenging for the government to meet the needs of every Nigerian.
The Golden Mother of Apapa-Iganmu further stated that the distribution was carried out during the Yuletide season because the period emphasizes love, compassion, and mercy for mankind, as exemplified by Jesus Christ.
Mrs. Otitonaiye pledged to continue contributing her quota to the socio-economic development of the Apapa-Iganmu community.
Our correspondent reports that the event was held under maximum security and in compliance with crowd safety regulations, following recent tragedies in Ibadan, Anambra, and the FCT during similar food distribution programs.
Some beneficiaries described the gesture as timely, especially given the skyrocketing prices of staple food items in the country.
They also expressed hope that Mrs. Fadekemi Otitonaiye would sustain the initiative while calling on other well-meaning Nigerians to emulate such acts to alleviate hunger in the country.
Notable dignitaries who graced the event included Prince Tajudeen Oluyole Olusi, represented by Hon. Teslim Olusi; Hon. Alawiye Wahab King, represented by Hon. Bashiru; Hon. Chief Abayomi Arobadade, the APC Vice Chairman, Lagos Central; Hon. Tajudeen Ajide, former Chairman of Surulere Local Government Area; Hon. James Abifarin, JP; and the Iyalode General of Ijora, Apapa, and Apapa-Iganmu Kingdom.
