Chelsea’s hopes of climbing to the top of the English Premier League were dashed following a 0-0 draw against Everton at Goodison Park.
The result ended Chelsea’s five-match winning streak in the league, leaving them one point behind leaders Liverpool, who have two games in hand, starting with their clash against Tottenham.
For Everton, the match marked the dawn of a new era under the Friedkin Group, their new owners.
With the club now sitting four points clear of the relegation zone, the atmosphere was hopeful. Marc Watts, Everton’s new executive chairman, observed from the stands as Nicolas Jackson’s header for Chelsea struck the post in the first half — the closest either side came to scoring.
