FC Barcelona has confirmed that 16-year-old winger Lamine Yamal sustained a grade 1 ligament injury to his right ankle during Sunday’s match against CD Leganés.
In a statement released on Monday, the club disclosed that medical tests conducted the same day confirmed the extent of the injury.
Yamal is expected to be sidelined for three to four weeks as he undergoes recovery.
The statement read: “The first-team player Lamine Yamal received a blow to the right ankle during the game against CD Leganés on Sunday. Tests carried out on Monday have revealed that the player has a grade 1 injury to a ligament in the ankle. The player is expected to be out for 3 to 4 weeks.”
Yamal’s absence comes as a major setback for Barcelona, with the young star emerging as a key player this season.
His injury coincides with a critical period for the team, as they prepare for several challenging fixtures.
