The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) confirmed on Friday that it has initiated discussions with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for a potential merger in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
This was disclosed by PRP National Chairman, Falalu Bello, during a joint press conference with his ADC counterpart, Ralphs Nwosu, in Abuja.
The move comes days after the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) declared that no opposition coalition, including alliances involving former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, could prevent President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
Bello emphasized that PRP is open to mergers and alliances to “rescue the country” from the APC-led government, reiterating the party’s commitment to people-oriented governance and its readiness to collaborate with like-minded parties and individuals.
He added, “The PRP is the oldest political party today, and we are not afraid of mergers. If uniting with other parties can bring the change Nigerians deserve, we are ready.”
The talks mark a significant step toward a broader opposition alliance, with other parties, including the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), also expressing interest in collaboration to challenge the ruling party.
