Following a recent ruling by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) against the Libyan Football Association, Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reiterated its commitment to protecting Nigerian citizens in Libya.
The CAF ruling cited Libya for alleged mistreatment of the Nigerian team during a Nations Cup Qualifying Match. In response, the Ministry released a statement, signed by spokesperson Amb. Eche Abu-Obe, assuring that Nigerians in Libya are safe and able to go about their daily lives without interference.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to convey that, as of the time of this statement, Nigerians in Libya are conducting their daily activities without any form of harassment by Libyan authorities, following the Confederation of African Football’s verdict, which found the Libyan Football Association at fault for the mistreatment of the Nigerian team and officials during a Nations Cup Qualifier in Libya.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirms that the well-being of Nigerian citizens worldwide is a top priority of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and it will continue to work to protect it at all times,” the statement concluded.
