In the ongoing Edo governorship election, Labour Party candidate Olumide Akpata was unable to secure a win at his own polling unit.
Akpata received 32 votes at Polling Unit 11, Ward 06, where he cast his ballot, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo, garnered 41 votes.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Monday Okpebholo, finished third with 19 votes.
Earlier in the day, Akpata expressed satisfaction with the voting process after casting his vote at Polling Unit 11 in Ward 6, Oredo Local Government Area, around 10:30 a.m.
He commended the orderly conduct of the election but urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure fairness for all candidates.
Akpata stated: “The process went well. I hope this is the experience of every Edo voter, though I can’t make that assumption from here. I will wait for feedback from my agents across the state’s 192 wards and 4,500 polling units.
“We remain hopeful that all voters have had a similar experience, and I call on INEC to maintain a level playing field. No one should be given undue advantage, and all party agents must be allowed into collation centers.
“Nobody should be hindered from entering the collation centers so that the process can be witnessed and confirmed as being conducted in accordance with the law, the Electoral Act, and the Constitution.”
