A pro-democracy group, Campaign for Dignity in Governance (CDG), has reacted to the re-opening of two International Markets-Mile 12 and Ladipo- by Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, saying, “the action has vindicated us that, truly, the governor’s human face policies are guided by objectivity and sensitivity.”
Convener and National President of the organization, Comrade Razaq Olokoba in a statement in Lagos Wednesday said, the reaction was imperative because when the governor shut the markets because of their anti-conducive environmental conducts, some misinformed people climbed the roof tops to accuse him of vindictiveness and persecution.
“And when we came out to defend the governor’s action after thorough scrutiny of what led to the official step taken and found it to be in the interest of the masses, not a few misguided fellows also called us unprintable names. Now that Sanwo-Olu’s action has also vindicated us that we are really supporting a just cause, we feel then that there is also the need to voice out again.”
Civil Society Organizations, according to Olokoba are the conscience of the nation that monitor, scrutinise and follow official policies with a view to serving as check and balance for the good of the generality of the populace adding that, “however, that does not mean that when and where the authorities are doing well, we should not commend them the way we chide them when they take any anti-masses steps.”
Recall when some markets were shut recently and a few illegal structures were pulled down, some detractors took to the socio-media to castigate the government reading some political meanings to a clear policy meant to sanitise the state and make it become conducive for habitation, ease of doing business and assist in prolonging the life span of the citizenry.
Olokoba and members of his group came out to pledge their support for cleaner and well-organised environment for the good of the people and residents of the state, urging the governor to face the onerous task of building a city devoid of filth and ignore detractors who he said would not be ready to see anything good in any administration.
Olokoba therefore reinstated his group’s insistence to always be on the same page with Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu on any policy meant for the good of the generality of the people, urging all well-meaning people and residents of Lagos to join hands with the governor to see to the success of his laudable people-oriented policies.
