In an efforts to alleviate the sufferings of the people of Lagos Island East LCDA over the fuel subsidy removal, the authorities of the council has embarked on sale of different food items at a subsidised and affordable rates to residents.
This platform, thenewsnow.org reports that the event held within the council area witnessed massive turn out of residents who applauded the council Chairman, Hon Alade Folawiyo for the initiative aimed at cushioning the effects of fuel subsidy removal .
The residents who want the State Governor, Babajide Sanwoolu to support the council Chairman towards making the initiative bigger also urged his colleagues to implement the program in their respective areas.
While speaking on the initiative, Hon Alade Folawiyo said the program which has been in place since his 100 days in office was to reduce the high level of poverty and hunger among the people.
According to him, the beneficiaries of the program was not determined by religion, tribe or political affiliations but for all residents of Lagos Island East LCDA.
The council boss noted that about five thousand residents who falls within the categories of poorest among the poor and the vulnerables benefitted from the program.
Hon Folawiyo assured that the Program will now run every month in the council area till the end of his tenure.
He alao disclosed that the Governor had met with council Chairmen in the state preparatory to the launch of the statewide Food palliative to residents.
Our correspondent reports that it was the eighth edition of the exercise carried out by Lagos Island East LCDA.
Some of the food items offered for sale at a subsidised rate include; Yam, Rice, Gari, Pepper, Egg, Chicken, Groundnut Oil and Noodles.
