Liverpool secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Saturday, with Mohamed Salah scoring the decisive goal at Anfield.

Despite scoring twice through Diogo Jota, Liverpool were pegged back twice by former player Neco Williams and Morgan Gibbs-White. However, Salah’s 183rd goal for the club, which put him on level terms with Robbie Fowler’s record, secured the three points for the Reds with 20 minutes left on the clock.

Liverpool’s victory closed the gap on fourth-placed Newcastle United to six points, though they have played one more game than their rivals, while Forest remains in the relegation zone.

Both teams had opportunities to score in the first half, with Keylor Navas making a tremendous reflex save in the 26th minute to deny Virgil van Dijk’s close-range header.

Meanwhile, Williams made a crucial save on the line to stop Cody Gakpo from scoring. However, Liverpool broke the deadlock two minutes into the second half. After Forest failed to clear a corner, Fabinho headed the ball back into the danger zone, and Jota flicked the ball into the net.

Forest responded four minutes later with a sweeping move that saw Gibbs-White find Williams, whose shot deflected in via Andrew Robertson.

Liverpool regained the lead within four minutes, with Jota scoring his second goal after taking advantage of poor defending to control his free-kick and drill a volley past Navas. The former Real Madrid goalkeeper made a brilliant save to prevent Jota from scoring a hat-trick.

Still, Forest managed to level the score again when Gibbs-White’s volley deflected off Trent Alexander-Arnold and into the bottom corner.

Salah’s goal came 20 minutes before the final whistle when he reacted quickly to steer Alexander-Arnold’s free-kick into the net.

Despite substitute Brennan Johnson’s attempt to rescue a point for Forest by hitting the crossbar, Liverpool held on for the win.
