The Coalition of United Political Parties, CUPP, has written a strongly worded petition to the Presidency over the fatal attack against its Spokesperson, Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere.
In a petition signed by its Co-National Spokesperson, Comrade Mark Adebayo, CUPP alleges Police complicity in covering up the crime it claimed was masterminded allegedly by an aide to the Imo state governor by the name Chinasa Nwaneri.
CUPP fumes that “Despite overwhelming evidence provided to the police of the threats issued to Barrister Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere by Mr Chinasa Nwaneri few days prior to the heinous arson and murders committed against him and petitions to that effect sent to the Police authorities, nothing has been done about the incident while the number one suspect in the carnage walks about free and threatening further violence against Barrister Ikenga.
“Mr. President, the CUPP views with grave concern this overt encouragement of impunity on the part of the authorities of the Nigeria Police Force who haven’t as little as invite Mr Chinasa Nwaneri for questioning about the threats he issued against our Spokesperson few days to the violent invasion of his house where there people were shot dead”.
The CUPP called on President Muhammadu Buhari to compel the Inspector-General of Police to immediately commence investigations into the crime starting with arresting Mr Chinasa Nwaneri for a thorough investigation of his threats to the Coalition’s National Spokesperson.
CUPP insists that non-investigation of the allegations against Chinasa is an invitation to avoidable anarchy “if Nigerians lose faith in the impartiality of law enforcement agencies, they will ultimately resort to selfhelp whenever they are wronged by fellow citizens which can cause intractable chain of crises for the country” the petition stated among other things.
