The Lagos State Police Command has been urged to put machineries in motion to ensure that an accused person in a case of Child defilement, Dr. Femi Olaleye of Optimal Cancer Foundation, is not allowed to escape justice.
The warning was handed down on Wednesday in Lagos by the Centre Against Injustice and Domestic Violence (CAIDOV) in a press release signed by it’s Executive Director, Comrade Gbenga Soloki, stressing that the arrest and prosecution of the accused person will serve as deterrent to others.
The NGO disclosed that the matter of child defilement was reported, and actions taken include letters to the Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
It disclosed that contrary to the practice when accused person in such cases are held behind bars so as not to interfere in the investigation, the NGO discovered the accused person, Dr. Olaleye was arrested and left off the hook.
CAIDOV posited that on Monday 24th of October, 2022; information was received to the effect that the much awaited legal advise from the Office of the DPP has been gotten, which stipulates the prosecution of Dr. Olaleye for child defilement.
The NGO further explained that to it’s consternation, the accused person is still waking freely, and being guided by Police Officers, when he is supposed to be in Court answering questions for his reckless actions.
CAIDOV also explained that it has dispatched a letter of complaint to the Officer in charge of Legal Services of the State Police Command at State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), urging the office to expedite action on the case to get justice for the minor involved.
The NGO however warned that failure to arrest and prosecute the accused person, Dr. Olaleye will amount to the Police aiding child molestation and subverting the course of justice, vowing that it will in conjunction with others pursue the matter to a logical conclusion.
