A Lagos based Non-governmental Organization (NGO), Women for Change Initiative (WCI), has observed that the 2023 governorship election in Lagos State would be just between the sitting governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu and the incumbent Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, because there’s no opposition party in Lagos State.
Leader of the all women group, Barrister Temitope Success-Adekunle, who made this observation Wednesday in Abule Egba axis of the city during a chat with our correspondent asserted that, successive progressive governors in the state from 1999 have killed and buried all the so called opposition and sort of turning the state into a one-party state.
Barrister Success-Adekunle, who said there is nothing wrong in having a one-party state, explained that, if the party in power, given the mandate to be there is doing the biddings of the people, so be it, wondering why should the people decide to change a winning team when the team has not fumbled?!
According to her, Sanwo-Olu is doing fine to the satisfaction and admiration of the people that put him there since 2019, expressing the delight that the leadership of his party, the All Progressive Congress APC has out of foresightedness and thoughtfulness has given him the ticket for a second term in office.
What then remains now, the lawyer/activist pointed out is for the good people of the state to compliment the efforts of the party leadership by voting overwhelmingly for Sanwo-Olu as a sign of appreciation for his good work and as a form of encouragement for him to do more.
In conclusion, the vocal legal practitioner cum pro-democracy fighter asked rhetorically that, if politics is about giving the people dividends of democracy and someone is already doing that marvelously, why should any other person would want to stop that performer half way if not out if selfishness?!
Against that background, Success-Adekunle therefore urged the people and residents of the state to rally round Sanwo-Olu to coast home successfully so he can hit the ground running immediately he was sworn in for his second term in office.
