First batch of the Divisional Teacher Training College (DITTCO), graduates have tentatively slated their inaugural get-together for mid-June this year where they are expected to formally launched the association and possibly elect their first ever executive to run the affairs of the body.
A statement from the interim National Publicity Secretary of the group, Alhaji Razaq Bamidele made available to the media in Lagos Tuesday, informed that, “the public would be informed officially when the real date, venue and time of the meeting have been agreed upon.
The reason, according to the statement, is that, “while some members want the first meeting to hold in the State of Osun, being the cradle of their learning, some others show prefer Ibadan, Oyo State capital city citing centrality as example.”
The defunct College was located at the ancient city of Ikirun, then Oyo State but now in the State of Osun. Members of the 78/81 set were the first set of the 3-year course because the school had been in existence much earlier running a single year programme for School Certificate holders chasing Grade 11 Teacher’s certificate to boost Teaching Profession in primary schools.
Currently, the located at the dreaded Igbo-Irele (Irele Forest), so named after a yearly festival (Irele Festival), that served as the taking off point for the festival’s worshipers in the town. The forest to the students then was likened to the Forest of a Thousand Demons courtesy, the late D. O. Fagunwa the author of the famous book, Ogboju Ode Ninu Igbo Irunmole.
Two prominent members of the group, Mr. David Oluseye Fatokun and Hajiya Bola Iyabo Oyedele (Nee Iyabo Afolabi), who were contacted on phone to shed more light on the venue’s considerations based their positions on the issues of proximity and fountain of their knowledge respectively.
Why Fatokun prefers Ibadan for centrality and proximity, Madam Oyedele wants the inaugural meeting to hold at the source of their tertiary education.
However, both assured that the issue would be resolved before by the first week of June and that the public would be intimated about the final decision and date.
