Ansarudeen Grammar School, Randle, Surulere, Swears in newly elected Students’ Representative Council prefects amidst presence from parents and well wishers.
The oath of office was conducted by Barrister Mahmud Adeshina SAN.
Declaring the eight assembly of the Students’ Representative Council opened, the Principal, Mr Habeeb Badru who narrated how the prefects emerged, stated that the significance of the ceremony cannot be overemphasized in the lives of the prefects and the school.
According to him, “Students are not allowed to canvass as it goes in line with the Islamic Political system. Justice, consultation and accountability are applied by the students to emerge as prefects.”
Mr Habeeb added that students must score 75 percent and above to be nominated even before they were screened and interviewed.
“If our system is practiced outside, there would be free, fair and credible election all over the world.” He reiterated.
The Chairman, Board of Governors of the School, Dr. Ade Ekemode, who admonished the students to be coolheaded and subdue themselves to service, also cautioned them not to use their positions in bullying their juniors.
Dr Ekemode noted that the prefects taking oath of office is to testify that they will perform as expected and will follow the rules and regulations of the school.
He reminded them of their way through the ranks to become Prefects and urged them to display their academic and moral character in all ramifications.
In his acceptance speech, the New Headboy, Master Bolanta Abdullateef, sought the cooperation of the management, staff, students as well as other prefects in working together to move the school forward.
Abdullateef who believed that “whatever Allah has destined cannot be changed, however pledged to be a good ambassador of the school and further improve in his academic performance.
The new Students Council however had their first sitting at the event. A bill on the use of Facemask by all students was proposed to the Board of Governors as their first assignment on assumption of duty.
Highlights of the event was the decoration of the Headboy by Barrister Mahmud Adeshina SAN, as well as reading of the prefects’ citation by the Vice Principal of the school.
