A pan-ethnic non-governmental organization, Egbe Omo Yoruba Ronu (Egbe), has said that, there is no division in the cabinet of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, explaining that, the cohesion in his team can be seen in the progress the state is making in term of good governance.
The NGO, through its leader, ComradeAdeosun Adekunle, in a statement in Lagos Saturday, therefore advised the people of the state should be rest assure that the relationship between the governor and his team is very cordial warning against allowing detractors to put a wedge of separation between them.
The organization was reacting to a news story captioned, “2023: Sanwo-Olu Takes Solace In God As Deputy, Chief Of Staff, Speaker Lobby to Deny Him Second Term,” published by an analyst on an Online platform in which it was insinuated that the Sanwo-Olu is fidgeting and not sure of his fate in 2023 about his second term in office.
Sounding the note of warning in a statement in Lagos Friday was the Coordinator of the group, Comrade Ekundayo Ibrahim, who vowed that members of the group would vehemently resist any attempt by any individual or group of individuals to distract the governor from concentrating on the job he was given overwhelming mandate to do in 2019.
According to him, his organization would not hesitate to mobilize other human right groups to protest against any attempt to distract and blackmail Sanwo-Olu to derail from the gubernatorial responsibility entrusted into his care, insisting that the governor should be allowed to concentrate till when the time is ripe for electioneering towards 2023.
Ekundayo, who urged the public and the officials mentioned to in the publication to discountenance the report, however admonished all members in the governor’s team not to allow the enemies within and outside to penetrate their rank and file with an objective to cause a cracks between, observing that, enemies of progress are at work with the publication.
The NGO boss further reminded that the people mentioned-Deputy Governor, Dr Femi Hamzat, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Tayo Ayinde and the Honourable Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila are the strong pillars on which the fate of the state rests, warning that, they should not be pushed into working at cross purposes as such would be counter-productive.
While admitting that aspiration to occupy elective offices in the land is an inalienable right of every individual in the country, the NGO insisted that all the normal processes as spelt out by the Electoral Act must be followed to the letter without jumping the gun, reminding that, there are time frames for all the political activities to embark upon at the stipulated period for them.
The youthful leader of the organization reminded those in a hurry to succeed Sanwo-Olu have it at the back of their mind that the onus to elect any person to occupy any office is on the people of the state, saying, everyone’s performance, antecedent and pedigree would be put into consideration before arriving at a conclusion about whose head the gubernatorial cap would fit at the fullness of the time.
“And by our own assessment, Sanwo-Olu is not doing badly at all. His performance across all sectors of the economy would also be part of induces to measure his achievement. It is only the people that can determine the fate of Sanwo-Olu against 2023 and not sponsored damaging reports,” the group declared.
Against this backdrop, the NGO boss expressed the need to give the governor and his team maximum support to succeed further, enthusing that, “with what is on ground in the state right now, Sanwo-Olu’s chance of scaling the second term hurdles appears brighter and more convincing!”
