A pro-democracy outfit, Royal Peoples Platform (RPP), has taken a critical look at the way Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is rebuilding Lagos State after the devastating effect of the #EndSARS protest on the state and declared the steps praise-worthy.
The outfit, in a statement Thursday in Lagos signed by its Convener, Prince Dare Aladekoba, said, it takes a man with a divine vision to combine correction of the #EndSARS errors with normal day today governance without stress, saying, “Sanwo-Olu is a unique administrator in a million.
According to the statement, Sanwo-Olu, with this development and others has proved to be a man of his words reminding that, he has promised to do his best to cushion the sad effect of the ill-fated protest on the citizenry, stating that, the rejuvenated 10,000 businesses with N939million would go a long way in helping the affected victims to recover a bit.
Recall Governor Sanwo-Olu, Wednesday disclosed this through the state’s Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Mrs Yetunde Arobieke during the annual ministerial press briefing commemorating the second anniversary of his administration where he added that, about 40,020 indirect jobs were saved in the aftermath of the protest in the state.
The organization lauded the governor for the judicious way he utilized the MSME Recovery Fund set up to support businesses of the victims whose properties and assets were destroyed in Lagos during the protest that rocked the nation to its foundation in October 2020, saying in some climes, the fund could have gone down the drain unaccounted for.
The RPP further expressed the delight that, in addition to the bailout gesture, what calls for more commendations for Sanwo-Olu is about the10,005 direct jobs and 40,020 indirect jobs saved, observing this and other efforts must have informed the calm and peace the state is enjoying.
The governor, has, through the bailout confirmed his avowed commitment to mitigate unemployment in the state and get the youth off the street by getting them gainfully engaged, adding that, the multiplier effect of that would be reduction in crime rates since it is the idle hands that serve as devil’s workshop.
The organization therefore stressed the need to give the governor maximum support in his efforts at making his good people happy and comfortable through poverty alleviation programmes, asserting that, “Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu deserves accolades, support and cooperation to appreciate his commitment to move the state forward.”
