A Labour friendly organization, Labour & Workers Welfare Advocacy Centre has warned operators of all the outfits concerned with the curfew relaxation in Lagos state, saying, “it would amount to ungratefulness towards Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s good gesture.”
National Convener of the group, Comrade Omobanke Razak, made the remarks in a release made available to the media in Lagos where he commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for his thoughtfulness over the yearnings of his people.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, through his Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, on Thursday relaxed the curfew imposed on outfits like Hotels, Bars Night Clubs, Cinema and Restaurants with a strong warning against flouting all the anti-COVID-19 rules.
The Commissioner, in the statement said, “All owners of hospitality establishments are warned to restrict their operations to 50% of their occupancy rate as directed by Mr. Governor, in addition to observing the guidelines on physical distancing, use of face masks, temperature checks and washing of hands with soap and running water or using of hand sanitizers.
“Events centre operators are also to ensure that participants at any event in their premises do not exceed 50% capacity of the design of their halls while strict compliance with the two-metre spacing between seats must be strictly enforced.”
Against this background, the youthful group leader therefore urged those concerned even including the rest of the populace to adhere strictly with all the guidelines spelt out by the government towards total eradication of the deadly disease.
This advice, Razak said, is for the welfare of the generality of the citizenry and also to appreciate the efforts of Governor Sanwo-Olu that substantially caged the deadly monster in Lagos state in particular and in the country as a whole.
“On our side as an organised group, we have raised a team of monitors to report observations to the appropriate agencies with a view to taking corrective measures and necessary steps to sanction recalcitrant operators and members of the public.
“In addition, another team is being set up to embark on enlightenment to sensitise the public about the imperative of adherence to the preventive measures. It is our belief that, a performing administrator like Sanwo-Olu deserves support and cooperation in the onerous task of state building. It is always our mantra that the art of governance is not the exclusive responsibility of the government, but a collective responsibility of all,” the youth leader declared.
