The PBAT-KOH Campaign Council has inaugurated 320 Digital Ambassadors to drive its 2027 electioneering campaign, promote the achievements of President Bola Tinubu and project the Lagos Promise Agenda of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Dr. Kadri Hamzat.
The ambassadors, comprising Chief Press Secretaries to council chairmen and social media practitioners, were also mandated to monitor public concerns, expose challenges affecting residents and escalate issues requiring government attention for prompt intervention.
The inauguration, organised by the council’s New Media Directorate, was performed by the APC Deputy Governorship Candidate, Damilola Sonayo James, at the campaign office on Sobo Arobiodun Street, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos.
James said the digital team had a critical role to play in communicating the achievements of the Tinubu administration and selling Hamzat’s Lagos Promise Agenda to the electorate.
She expressed confidence that President Tinubu would consolidate on the work he had started, while Hamzat would deliver on his promises to Lagos residents.
She also urged the ambassadors to ensure that information disseminated through their platforms was properly scrutinised, stressing that their contributions could shape the future of Lagos and the country.
The Director-General of the PBAT-KOH Campaign Council, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, charged the ambassadors to think creatively and develop compelling content capable of connecting with the people.
Obanikoro said the growing access to social and new media among Nigerians informed the council’s decision to make the platforms a strategic part of its campaign machinery ahead of the 2027 elections.
He drew parallels with the political communication strategies of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, recalling how technology was deployed in the early days of politics to convince Nigerians that Awolowo was in the sky when he was not.
He urged the newly inaugurated ambassadors to see themselves as history-makers and called for the establishment of a Creative Department to produce engaging content capable of winning the hearts of voters.
The Deputy Director-General of the council, Hon. Rasaq Ajala, expressed confidence in the team’s capacity to publicise the achievements of President Tinubu and promote other APC candidates ahead of the elections.
He described the digital ambassadors as representatives of both Tinubu and Hamzat, urging them to equip themselves with facts and convincing responses on why voters should support the party’s candidates.
Ajala also tasked them with educating Nigerians across political divides on the social and economic impact of projects executed by the Tinubu administration.
In his remarks, the Director of the New Media Directorate, Hon. Sesan Daini, said one of the key responsibilities of the ambassadors was to take campaign messages to the grassroots.
He disclosed that the Rapid Response Team had been operating for over a month, monitoring social media conversations and responding promptly to issues, adding that the campaign had maintained a strong presence across digital platforms.
Daini also highlighted the role of the National Youth Council of Nigeria in mobilising young people for the APC, describing its members as automatic foot soldiers for the party.
The campaign council’s Technology Officer, Otunba Awosanya, urged the ambassadors to align their activities with the council’s communication strategy and monitor conversations about all the candidates, whether positive or negative.
He charged them to take charge of the social media space, assuring them of a steady supply of content to support their activities.
Also speaking, the National Youth Council of Nigeria representative, Comrade Victor Adogbajale, said the organisation’s agenda was anchored on three principles: publicity, productivity and professionalism.
He pledged the council’s support for the government’s efforts ahead of the elections, adding that the next phase of its Back to the Street initiative would focus on encouraging Nigerians to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and vote wisely.
Earlier, Saheed Tijani, Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman of Iba LCDA, welcomed the initiative, expressing delight that council media aides had been carried along and given an opportunity to contribute to the forthcoming general elections.
He noted the growing recognition of young people in public service, citing the appointment of a Minister of Youth and the emergence of one of them as a candidate in Kosofe Local Government Area.
