As the build-up to the 2027 general elections gathers pace, governorship hopeful, Modele Sarafa-Yusuf, has stepped into the political arena with a clearly defined vision aimed at repositioning Ogun State through inclusive development, responsive governance, and institutional efficiency.

A respected media practitioner and former broadcaster with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Sarafa-Yusuf is seeking the governorship ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC), offering what many political watchers have described as a pragmatic, policy-oriented approach to leadership.

Her decision to join the race, according to close associates, followed extensive consultations with party leaders, stakeholders, and grassroots communities across Ogun State, reflecting a candidacy shaped by broad engagement and collective input.

Addressing her aspiration, Sarafa-Yusuf stressed that the next phase of Ogun’s development must be driven by substance rather than slogans. She noted that genuine progress can only be achieved through strategic planning, policy continuity, and a strong bond of trust between government and the governed.

“Ogun State must experience growth that is not selective but inclusive, where every citizen feels the impact of governance,” she stated.

Sarafa-Yusuf’s professional journey spans years of distinguished service in journalism, where she earned credibility as a trusted voice in broadcast media. Her transition into public service saw her serve as Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, contributing significantly to governance communication and policy articulation.

Central to her ambition is a comprehensive development agenda that prioritises economic revitalisation, youth empowerment, infrastructure renewal, and institutional strengthening. Her plan focuses on expanding the state’s economy through industrialisation and investment-friendly policies, creating sustainable job opportunities for young people, upgrading critical infrastructure to enhance mobility and commerce, and improving governance systems for greater transparency and accountability.

On the delicate matter of zoning and the agitation for power rotation within the state, Sarafa-Yusuf has adopted a conciliatory approach, calling for dialogue, unity, and mutual understanding among stakeholders. While acknowledging the importance of fairness and equity, she cautioned against approaches that could threaten the state’s cohesion or hinder its developmental progress.

Her political journey also reflects a level of discipline and party loyalty. Having contested for the APC governorship ticket in 2022, she accepted the outcome of the primaries without dispute, a move that earned her respect within party ranks.

At a time when conversations around women’s participation in politics are gaining renewed attention, Sarafa-Yusuf has remained consistent in her position that leadership should be anchored on competence, experience, and vision. She presents herself not as a symbolic candidate, but as a prepared and capable leader ready to deliver results.

With political alignments gradually taking shape ahead of 2027, her entry into the race introduces a compelling dynamic within the APC and the broader Ogun political landscape, where the contest for the party’s ticket is expected to be keenly contested.
