NBA-ICLE Achieves Record Attendance at Strategic Influence Virtual Training

The Nigerian Bar Association Institute of Continuing Legal Education (NBA-ICLE) has recorded a landmark achievement with an unprecedented turnout at its virtual training titled “Fundamentals of Strategic Influence in Legal Practice” held on Sunday, July 6, 2025. An impressive 8,245 lawyers registered for the training, setting a new record for participation in NBA-ICLE’s virtual learning sessions.

This overwhelming response underscores the growing commitment of Nigerian legal professionals to Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and their dedication to remaining abreast of the evolving demands of modern legal practice.

“It is inspiring to witness thousands of our colleagues embracing this learning opportunity,” remarked Mrs. Sarah Omega Ajijola, Director of NBA-ICLE. “Continuous learning is no longer optional; it is essential for every lawyer who intends to thrive in today’s dynamic legal environment. The NBA, through the ICLE, remains steadfast in its mission to provide high-impact training that enhances the competence and relevance of Nigerian lawyers.”

The training was organised in collaboration with the Institute of Communication and Corporate Studies (ICCS) and focused on empowering lawyers with practical strategies for using influence to advance client interests, policy advocacy, and justice sector leadership.

Mrs. Ajijola also expressed profound appreciation to the leadership of the Bar for their vision and unwavering support, particularly the President of the NBA, Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, the Chairman of NBA-ICLE, Prof. Festus Emiri, SAN, and the esteemed NBA-ICLE Board Members.

The success of this training reinforces the NBA-ICLE’s pivotal role in shaping the future of legal practice in Nigeria through strategic, accessible, and innovative continuing legal education.

About Dr Austin Tam-George:

The distinguished guest speaker for the session, Dr. Austin Tam-George is a leading public intellectual and communication strategist. Dr. Tam-George brings a wealth of experience, spanning academia, government, oil and gas, and international advisory roles. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa, and was a Senior Executive Fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School, focusing on communication, leadership, and public policy.

With 30 years of experience collaborating with experts from over 70 countries, Dr. Tam-George’s insights have profoundly impacted public discourse globally. He was an Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Cape Town and participated in the International Faculty Programme cohort at IESE Business School, University of Navarra, Spain. A member of the Harvard Business Review (HBR) Advisory Council, Tam-George contributes to global discourse at the intersection of communication, law, strategy, and public policy. In 2022, he served as Technical Advisor to UNESCO (Paris), advocating for expanded broadband access to schools worldwide.

“Dr. Tam-George blends scholarly rigour with decades of hard-won insights across different sectors,” Mrs. Ajijola noted. “We are truly excited to have him share his expertise with us. I am certain that this session will be enlightening, interactive, and highly beneficial.”

This free virtual training session marks another significant step in the NBA’s commitment to advancing the professional capabilities of its members, ensuring they remain at the forefront of legal practice.
