Prominent Muslim scholar and preacher, Sheikh Muyideen Ajani Bello, has passed away. The revered Islamic cleric died in the early hours of Friday, December 6, 2024.
His death, which has sent shockwaves through the Nigerian Muslim community, was confirmed by his son, Alhaji Basit Olanrewaju Katibi Bello, popularly known as Aponle Anobi, in a social media post on Friday.
The post featured a crying emoji alongside a picture of the late Sheikh, but no further details were disclosed.
Born in 1940 to Alhaji Bello Ajani and Alhaja Ubaidat Bello of Arolu Compound, Ita Olukoyi, Ibadan, Sheikh Muyideen began his formal education at I.D.C Primary School, Elekuro, Ibadan, where he also completed his secondary schooling.
He later attended Mahdul Arabiy, Elekuro, between 1963 and 1967, gaining in-depth knowledge of Arabic and Islamic studies.
From the age of 10, Sheikh Muyideen exhibited a deep passion for Islamic propagation, preaching throughout Ibadan’s neighborhoods.
His illustrious career included teaching in secondary schools across Oyo, Ogun, and Kano States and serving as the Missioner for the Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria.
His influence extended far beyond Nigeria, as he was invited to preach in countries such as the United Kingdom, the United States, and several African nations.
Most recently, he was in Ogbomoso to inaugurate the mosque of Senator Fatai Buhari.
Sheikh Muyideen’s demise marks the end of an era for a scholar who dedicated his life to the propagation of Islam.
