…Several Officers Injured as Fiery Altercation Erupts in Broad Daylight
A commercial bus driver, yet to be identified, reportedly set several officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) on fire in a shocking incident that occurred Tuesday in the Mile 2 area of Lagos State.
Footage from the scene shows a yellow Volkswagen T4 bus with license plate LSD 355 CK, parked near the center of the road, surrounded by approximately eight LASTMA officers engaged in a heated exchange with the driver.
Within moments, flames erupted, engulfing some of the officers, who were caught off guard by the sudden blaze. While a few managed to escape, others were not as fortunate and suffered injuries.
The driver, believed to be the assailant, was also engulfed in flames. Desperately trying to remove his burning singlet, he ran into the roadway, narrowly avoiding an oncoming petrol tanker.
One of the LASTMA officers sustained burns on his hand during the incident. Speaking on behalf of LASTMA, Adebayo Taofiq, Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, confirmed the attack.
This incident highlights growing tensions on Lagos roads, where commercial drivers have voiced frustrations over what they allege to be frequent extortion by traffic officials.
