Ekiti State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Bunmi Omoseyindemi, has issued a stern warning that any officials whose conduct falls short of the dictates of the Electoral Act will face the full wrath of the law.
He specifically highlighted electoral malpractice, including the manipulation or forging of results and aiding party officials in causing violence during the exercise.
The INEC REC issued this warning in a statement released in Ado-Ekiti by spokesman Emmanuel Adedipe, ahead of the commencement of the trial of Chief Michael Ogunlade. Ogunlade was apprehended for allegedly carting away an election result sheet at Iye III, Unit 007 in Ilejemeje Local Government Area during the 2023 general elections.
Chief Ogunlade has since been charged with stealing result sheets.
Dr. Omoseyindemi further assured residents of Ekiti State of his commitment to fulfilling the promise of a peaceful election devoid of violence.
The trial of Chief Michael Ogunlade is set to commence on September 5th at Magistrate Court 1 in Ado-Ekiti.
