A policeman identified as Inspector Collins Wilson allegedly killed three people in an attempt to cover up a theft committed by his girlfriend, known only as Esther.
The incident occurred on Monday, August 26th, when Esther was accused of stealing a phone from a tricycle driver who had been transporting her.
According to eyewitnesses, the theft was discovered when the stolen phone rang while in Esther’s possession, leading to a confrontation between her and bystanders.
As tensions escalated, Esther called her boyfriend, Inspector Wilson, to the scene for assistance.
Upon arriving, Inspector Wilson drew his service weapon and ordered Esther to stand behind him. He then opened fire at close range, killing two individuals instantly.
The victims included the tricycle driver and a bystander who was attempting to defuse the situation.
A third victim, a motorcyclist who had brought Inspector Wilson to the scene, was critically injured.
He was initially taken to Garki Hospital but was reportedly rejected. He later died at the National Hospital, where he could not receive proper care due to a doctors’ strike.
After the shooting, Inspector Wilson fled the scene with Esther, commandeering another tricycle and later switching to a motorcycle to avoid detection.
However, the motorcyclist who transported Wilson back to his post directed angry residents to his location.
The residents quickly mobilized and apprehended Inspector Wilson and Esther at the estate where he was stationed. The violent cop and his girlfriend were handed over to the police.
The authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the incident, but residents reportedly brought the bodies of two victims to the police command on Tuesday, demanding justice.
