A non-governmental organization, Inner Wheel Nigeria, has reiterated its commitment to providing succor to the less privileged in society and improving their well-being.
However, it said that it has the capacity to reach out to more people in need if it receives necessary support from the government, wealthy individuals, and spirited Nigerians.
The District Chairman 911, Magdalene Adegoke, disclosed this during the Annual General Meeting of Inner Wheel Nigeria held at Hall 36 within the premises of Lagos University Teaching Hospital, LUTH, Idi-Araba.
She expressed her joy as the Chairman of the district, which comprises 18 clubs in both Lagos and Ogun states, at a time they are marking the Centenary Anniversary of Inner Wheel Nigeria.
Magdalene Adegoke said the group relies solely on funds raised among themselves, especially during the installation of new executives, adding, however, that they are open to support from all quarters.
The DC further said that they are involved in all charitable acts, including the empowerment of widows and orphans, medical interventions, training, and payment of school fees to improve the quality of life for people.
Speaking further, DC Adegoke noted that they have trained over thirty people in different vocational trades like hairdressing, makeup, computer development, and also empowered them with the necessary tools to become self-reliant.
According to her, aside from the lack of finance to carry out their activities, dwindling membership is another major challenge due to the wrong impression that the club is for the rich.
She said that although they have a link to the Rotary Club, they are now open to people not affiliated with Rotary.
Also speaking, the incoming Chairman for the district, Mrs. Nike Sodipo, disclosed that her priority will be improving the health care needs of the people.
According to her, the organization under her watch will partner with Rotary to conduct free eye screenings and surgical exercises for the vulnerable, including the elderly.
Sodipo, who steps in as Chairman on July 1st, also disclosed that they plan to train young girls to catch them young in the selfless service to humanity.
Earlier in her welcome address, a member of the organizing committee of the Annual General Meeting, Titilayo Salo, said they look forward to touching more lives positively.
She also said that they intend to move the organization forward in the best interest of the needy.
