The First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has applauded the drive by the Federal Ministry of Education to recruit more teachers for government schools in the country.
She expressed her support during a visit by the Minister of Education, Prof Tahir Mamman, and his management team to her office at the State House in Abuja on Friday, May 3rd.
As a former teacher herself, Senator Oluremi Tinubu emphasized the importance of enhancing the teaching profession and supporting educators to improve the quality of teaching and learning. She pledged to join efforts to advocate for more teachers in the country, emphasizing their crucial role in achieving positive teaching outcomes.
Senator Oluremi Tinubu also commended the Minister for approving the change of name from Second Chance School to Alternative High School for Girls, stating that the new name is more dignifying and underscores the significance of education in national development.
She urged governors to adopt the Alternative High School for Girls initiative and emphasized the importance of providing quality education to empower the younger generation.
Furthermore, the First Lady highlighted the need for Adult Literacy Schools and the reintroduction of Technical Colleges to cater to students with varying academic strengths.
In response, Minister Prof Tahir Mamman outlined the Ministry’s initiatives, including introducing skills acquisition programs from primary school level and prioritizing education studies in tertiary institutions.
He presented 100 General Scholarships for Female Students and 1000 Bursary Awards for education students to the First Lady.
The visit included the Minister of State for Education, Dr Yusuf Tanko Sununu, DG NEPAD Princess Gloria Akoundo, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education Mrs Didi Walson-Jack, and other directors in the Ministry.
