Anthony Joshua has confirmed his return to the boxing ring in September as he inches closer to reclaiming his status as a three-time world champion.
The British-Nigerian boxer is currently enjoying a four-fight winning streak, having bounced back from consecutive losses and unsuccessful attempts to regain his titles against Oleksandr Usyk.
Over the past year, Joshua has secured four victories, three of which were by knockout against Robert Helenius, Otto Wallin, and Francis Ngannou.
During an interview on the Jonathon Ross show, as reported by Forbes, Joshua revealed his plans for his next fight, stating, “I’ve been told around September; I was hoping for June. I have some time now to go on dates and socialize a bit. I’m currently training; I have two months before I enter training camp.”
When questioned about a potential bout with Tyson Fury, the 34-year-old former unified heavyweight champion expressed his eagerness for the matchup, saying, “Fury is one of my rivals; this is someone I want to compete with one day. So everything he says, I’ve got it all stored in the back of my memory, and when the fight happens, I’m going to use it as a lot of fuel.”
Regarding his recent fight with Ngannou, which he won via second-round knockout, Joshua shared his thoughts on the encounter.
He stated, “I was preparing for a tough 10-round fight. He’s a big, strong guy with a different background as an MMA fighter.
He’s resilient. I anticipated victory, but it came much quicker than expected.
“With some fighters, there’s no interaction afterward due to personal differences. However, there’s also a level of mutual respect. Ngannou and I shared that respect. I offered him words of encouragement because he’s had an impressive career. I urged him not to let one setback define him. I’ve experienced losses myself; it’s challenging.”
Undoubtedly, Joshua has his sights set on the undisputed showdown between Usyk and Fury on May 18. This event could potentially position him to face the victor and emerge as the leading contender for the WBC title.
