OAFLAD Convenes In Addis Ababa To Enhance Regional Collaboration

•Members of the Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD), including Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, attended the opening of the 28th General Assembly of the Organization held in Addis Ababa on Saturday, February 17, 2024.

The Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD) has convened in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, on the sidelines of the ongoing African Union General Assembly. The organization has expressed its commitment to bolster regional collaboration among its members.

Chaired by the Vice President of the Organization and First Lady of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mrs. Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi, the meeting emphasized the importance of fostering collaboration to drive development and promote growth across member countries.

In attendance were First Ladies from member countries, including the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu. The gathering observed a minute of silence in honor of the late Namibian President Hage Geingob, whose wife served as the President of OAFLAD until his passing on February 4, 2024.

The First Ladies also participated in the opening session of the AU General Assembly alongside the Presidents of member countries.

The 28th General Assembly of OAFLAD will continue on Sunday, February 18, with technical sessions and presentations of position papers on its #WeAreEqual campaign and other pertinent issues.

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, is scheduled to deliver her inaugural address at the Assembly on Sunday, February 18.
