In a landmark event in Maputo, Mozambique, the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, joined forces with other African First Ladies to underscore the importance of collective action in promoting environmental sustainability and eradicating gender inequity.
At the launch of the We Are Equal Campaign and Zero Waste Movement Agreement organized by the Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD), Senator Tinubu emphasized her commitment to these goals through her initiative, the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI).
Speaking as one of the guest speakers, Senator Tinubu announced plans to establish an alternative high school for girls, providing a second chance for those who had dropped out of school.
This initiative, she stated, aligns with OAFLAD’s “We Are Equal” campaign and complements the efforts of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
Senator Tinubu highlighted the role of education as a powerful tool in advancing the OAFLAD campaign, emphasizing its transformative impact on the lives of women and girls.
She commended the collaborative efforts between the government and the private sector in achieving tangible results in waste reduction and innovative recycling programs, acknowledging that more work needs to be done.
The event, graced by the President of Mozambique, Filipe Jacinto Nyusi, and attended by First Ladies from Zimbabwe, Kenya, Botswana, Malawi, Rwanda, and the Queen of Estwani, showcased a united front in the pursuit of gender equity and environmental sustainability.
Senator Tinubu reiterated the administration’s commitment to ensuring women in Nigeria are engaged in productive activities for the nation’s socio-economic development.
