A pan-Lagos pro-democracy group, Movement for a Better Lagos (MBL), has expressed excitement over the report of is the first electric train in West Africa coming out of Lagos State of Nigeria, an achievement of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu.
Convener of the Movement, Ogbeni Adewale Oladipupo in a statement made available to the press in Epe, Lagos State said, the feat has vindicated all pro-democracy groups and human rights organization that, “our love and supports for the governor is borne out of the fact that he is the best for the state presently,” asserting that, “the best way to encourage him is to show appreciation by retaining him in office for a second term.
Oladipupo in the statement therefore assured Sanwo-Olu that, members of his group running up to almost half of a million within and outside Nigeria will mobilise heavily for his second term in office promising that, “the number of votes for his second term in office will be unprecedented in the history of electoral victories in the state.”
The Movement’s press statement was in reaction to the reports in the media on the Lagos Blue and Red lines. The reports have it that, “the blue line will run on electricity, built with its own state-of-the-art power facilities which is the first intra-City rail line in Africa to be built over water.”
It is reported to be the first electric train in West Africa which is expected to carry 500,000 passengers on a single day. The red line is also reported to be currently the fastest train in Africa and expected to carry one million passengers a day in Lagos a Nigerian state with a population of 25 million to become the first African mega-city to have both an electric train and a high speed train.
The report added that, with the current Sanwo-Olu’s feat, Lagos is expected to generate over $300 million in revenue in its first phase, which is expected to increase to 5 million passengers per day in a couple of years to come.
Concluding, the statement therefore gave kudos to Governor Sanwo-Olu and his supportive team, just as the organization urged the people of the state to show appreciation to the governor’s landmark achievements by giving him more support for him to do more now before he starts his second term next year by the grace of God.
