The city of Ilorin, Kwara State capital was agog Thursday when some renowned Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), across the nation and beyond under the umbrella of Razaq Kolade Olokoba (RKO) Political Network stormed the city for official and formal endorsement of the senatorial aspiration of Mallam Saliu Mustapha for Kwara Central District.
Recall a technocrat and philanthropist, Mallam Saliu Mustapha has recently emerged the Kwara Central Senatorial District senatorial candidate on the ticket of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC), for the next year, 2023 general election.
Storming the city with their members in thousands were, Razaq Kolade Olokoba (RKO), political Network Groups, the Kwara Central Volunteers for Saliu Mustapha Senatorial ambition and Coalition of several other Civil Society Groups among others.
Addressing the mammoth crowd at the Hall B of the Kwara Hotel venue of the event, the Convener and leader of the CSOs, Comrade Razaq Olokoba informed that, the event was to officially and formally endorse the candidature of Mallam Saliu Mustapha’s senatorial ambition and assure him of their unflinching support for his aspiration.
According to him, all the members are prepared to galvanize support for him by canvassing for votes for him to become the distinguished Senator to represent the good people of Kwara Central in the senate from next year, stating that, “our support for him is never borne out of any pecuniary gain but for the good of the generality of the people of the district in particular and the whole of Kwara State as a whole.”
Speaking further, Olokoba, who is also the National President of the Campaign for Dignity in Governance (CDG), said, “our interest in Saliu Mustapha is not just an overnight thing because we have been monitoring his private and public conduct for a long time and we have realised that he is a trust-worthy personality who can be entrusted with responsibilities and he will not betray trust or disappoint.”
The vocal political observer and public analyst disclosed that, the event was planned to serve three purposes namely, support for Mallam Saliu Mustapha’s senatorial aspiration, endorsement of a second term in office of Governor Abdur-Rahman Abdur-Razaq and Presidential ambition of the former Lagos State and the APC National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, promising to mobilise heavily, voters to endorse their aspirations during the 2023 general elections.
Present at the well-attended event were representatives of Market men/women, tricycle/motor cycle riders associations, right activists and pro-democracy fighters, artisans, community leaders as well as 22 associations, Forums, students bodies and professionals across all walks of human endeavours.
Some dignitaries, who also spoke at the event were, former Adviser to the Governor on political Affairs and currently a Commissioner Nominee, Mallam Gidado Abdur-Lateef Alakawa, APC State Woman Leader, Alhaja Tawa Agaka, Iyaloja General Alhaja Sidikatu Akaje, Director-General, Saliu Mustapha Foundation and a renowned activist, Comrade Nelson Ekujume among several others.
