Several rights groups, pro-democracy outfits and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), have hailed the Bishops of the Methodist Church Nigeria over their unanimous endorsement of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State for a second term in office, describing their endorsement as divine.
The bishops’ endorsement was announced Tuesday, during the Opening Session of the 39th Bishops’ Council of Methodist Church Nigeria at the Methodist Church of the Trinity, Tinubu area of Lagos metropolis, by the Prelate of the Methodist Church Nigeria, Samuel Uche who hinged the endorsement on the commendable performance of the governor’s administration in Lagos State.
Leader of Campaign Against Corrupt Nigerians (CACN), Comrade Razak Omobanke in a chat with journalist in Lagos Friday said, “the endorsement that comes from these incorruptible men of God is a clear indication that it is divine and genuine,” adding that, “any declaration from this set of clerics is surely a divine one.”
Speaking in the same vein, Convener of Egbe Omoluabi Eko, Comrade Adewale Oladipupo enthused that, “with the words from the mouths of these men of God, Sanwo-Olu’s second term in office has had God’s signature and so has become a done deal directly from the Heavens.”
Olodipupo, who spoke in Epe Thursday, was of the conviction that, “any utterances from the pulpits manned by incorruptible men like the bishops of the Methodist Church Nigeria can be taken to the bank as collateral for any monetary assistance,” saying, “because they are not known to be worldly.”
Another NGO boss, Barrister Temitope Success-Adekunle, in her own remarks expressed the assurance that, “the situation is clear that, the 2023 election, as regards Governor Sanwo-Olu will just be as mere formality,” asserting that, “it is a project that has already had God’s hand in it.
Success Adekunle, who is the Convener of the all-women NGO, Women for Change Initiatives, based her group’s submission on the fact that, “everybody is very convinced and satisfied with the service to humanity that has been Sanwo-Olu’s mantra all this while,” expressing the delights that, “even those who are opinion moulders are satisfied with the governor’s performance.”
Against the foregoing, in his own contribution to the Bishops’ stand on Sanwo-Olu’s second term in office, Convener, Speak Out 24/7, Comrade Adekunle Adeosun therefore expressed the need for all and sundry to put all hands on deck to make the endorsement a reality warning that, “complicancy can be dangerous because 24 hours is long enough a period in politics to dismantle well arranged plans.”
