Not less than five persons, including two reverend sisters, a couple and their driver, were burnt to death in a road crash at Nawfia, along the Awka-Enugu Expressway, Anambra State.
The tragic accident occurred on Wednesday, around 06.30am. The victims comprised of two male adults and three female adults.
It was gathered that the crash was between a Toyota Highlander with number plate BMR570BE, and a Toyota Hiace with no number plate.
It was learnt that the bus driver who was at top speed, lost control and rammed into the Highlander from behind, as both vehicles caught fire.
Men of the state fire service subsequently put out the fire. The Anambra State Sector Commander, FRSC, Adeoye Irelewuyi, attributed the crash to speeding.
He commiserated with the families of the victims and advised motorists to keep to the recommended speed limit.
“An eyewitness disclosed that the bus driver was at top speed when he lost control and rammed into the Highlander from behind, crashed and both vehicles caught fire.
“Two male adults and three female adults, were involved in the crash and were burnt beyond recognition. Speed thrills, but kills, check your speed and not your watch. Let us keep our road safe from crashes,” he said.
