After Neymar’s first attempt to pay his release clause was turned down by La Liga, Barcelona’s director general received the cheque on Thursday afternoon.
As reported by ‘Mundo Deportivo’, the Brazilian’s lawyer Juan de Dios Crespo went to La Liga’s offices on Thursday morning only to see the payment of the 222-million-euro release clause turned down.
At around 18:30, Crespo arrived at Barcelona’s HQ with the same cheque in his hand and accompanied by other lawyers and a notary, before handing over the payment to the club’s director general Oscar Grau.
After completing the payment of the player’s buy-out clause straight to the club and avoiding going through La Liga, Neymar ceases to be a Barcelona player and is free to join Paris Saint-Germain.
The superstar will be officially unveiled by the Ligue 1 outfit on Friday or Saturday, after signing a contract worth up to 30 million euros a year.
