A right activist and frontline pro-democracy advocate, Comrade Razaq Olokoba has described as heart-warming and exciting, the news item that read, “Tinubu approves Governor Sanwo-Olu for 2nd term” in office, saying, “the story has said the minds of millions of the people of Lagos State and beyond.
Olokoba, who is the National President of Campaign for Dignity in Governance (CDG), in a chat with our correspondent in Lagos Tuesday, quoted from The Nigerian Xpress online report that, “Lagos State governor, Mr.Babajide Sanwo-Olu will be contesting for a second term in office in 2023,” praising the medium for its constant exclusive stories.
The elated activist said, “I have no doubt in my mind about the authenticity of the story because of the credibility of the medium that reported it,” pointing out that, “a top member of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), quoted in the story must have been part of the state apex decision making body for the All Progressives Congress, APC.”
Olokoba, grinning widely expressed anxiety when he read that, “the governor may likely make the declaration at the national convention of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja on March 26,” reminding that, “not a few Nigerian both from within and beyond Lagos State are on the lookout for that information.
According to him, nothing could be more heart-warming than the paragraph of the story that reads, “Sanwo-Olu is coming back. I can authoritatively confirm that to you. He is likely to declare and will kick off his re-election campaign this weekend at Eagles Square, the venue of the National Convention of the APC in Abuja.”
Speaking further, the youth leader added that, no keen observer of Sanwo-Olu’s performance would disagree with the aspect of the story that informed that, “the governor has performed creditably in all areas since coming to office in 2019,” stressing that, more correct again is the portion of the report that disclosed that, “as a technocrat, he focused on his job as governor and allowed political leaders who ensured his emergence to run the political affairs of the state, which has therefore endeared him to many of us.”
While congratulating the people of Lagos in advance on the cheering news, Olokoba, therefore assured the governor of constant and maximum support of members of the Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), stressing the need for that because of the benefit that will accrue to the citizenry in form of democracy dividends.
