A Lagos based pro-democracy group, Epe Youth Forum (EYF), has assured the public that it is prepared to mobilize widely for voters’ registration to deepen democracy and facilitate good governance in Lagos State in particular and the country as a whole.

Convener of the Forum, Comrade Adewale Oladipupo, in a media chat in Epe said, since democracy is a game of number, the more the number of voters during elections the better, saying, “it is when the voters participate en masse that one can safely admit that the majority has actually carried the vote.”

According to him, if pro-democracy organizations across the country fail in their responsibilities of mobilizing eligible voters to register, the result will be, sadly, an apathy which is inimical to the deepening of the government of the people by the people and for the people.

Comrade Oladipupo therefore stressed the need for all the Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), to rise up to the task of mobilizing eligible voters to come out en masse to discharge their civic duties of choosing the right candidates for political offices, asserting that, “it is through that process that good governance could be guaranteed.”

In addition, the Forum boss stated that, the only constitutional weapon to retain good government or sweep away bad administration is voter’s card, reminding that, any eligible voter that fails to vote in an election would not have audacity to complain if the elected candidates fail to perform well.

He therefor appealed to all eligible voters to be well prepared to participate in the voters’ registration exercise any time it commences, asserting that, it is the duty of all patriotic citizens of the country, who want the best for their fathers’ land.

“Against this backdrop, we members of the Epe Youth Forum, are already perfecting strategies towards the forms our mobilization would take to enhance smooth operation that would guarantee peaceful participation of all concerned,” Oladipupo disclosed.
