Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has hailed former Delta State Governor and PDP vice-presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, for throwing his support behind President Bola Tinubu.
Wike’s praise follows the dramatic defection of Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Okowa, sources say, is also on the verge of officially joining the ruling party.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Lere Olayinka, Wike said Okowa’s alignment with Tinubu vindicates his own early support for the president ahead of the 2023 polls.
“It is another endorsement of the president’s good governance and commitment to the development of the country,” Wike stated. “I’m particularly happy that what I saw before the 2023 presidential election, others are now seeing and joining the Renewed Hope train.”
Wike emphasized that the timing of the move is crucial for the Niger Delta region, saying it paves the way for greater development and federal inclusion.
“They have come out at the right time to show support for the president so that the people of Niger Delta can benefit more from the government,” he said. “I commend Dr. Okowa and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for this heartwarming decision.”
The FCT Minister urged more Nigerians to rally behind President Tinubu, stressing unity and national progress as key drivers of the administration’s success.
