A right and democracy group, Youth Advocacy Initiative has urged the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) and the Cable Network (CNN), to toe the path of caution and diplomacy over the issue of the alleged shooting of the #EndSARS protesters at the Lekki Tollgate, Lagos, by the military.

A statement from the group signed by its leader, Comrade Adekunle Akinde, made available to the press weekend in Lagos, reasoned that, confrontation and hard-liner’ postures from both ends  cannot solve the crisis on ground if truly both sides are seeking for resolution of the issue at hand.

According to the group, both the Federal Government and the CNN should try to present their own angles to the case in a diplomatic way that could lead to getting to the root of the matter with a view to reaching a clear point of what really happened on the night of Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at the Lekki Tollgate.

Being confrontational and stirring up controversy over the vexatious matter, the group observed, would only cause further confusion in the already confusing matter of global interest, suggesting that, since a panel of enquiry has been set up, the best thing to do is to summit observations and facts to the body without unnecessary embellishment.

While admitting that the CNN is a globally known as a respected media outfit, the group reminded that it cannot claim 100% error proof since it is being run by human beings that are susceptible to imperfection.

On the part of the government, the right organization admonished that, the issue on ground now requires high level tact to handle so as to avoid creating an unnecessary avenue for tension to rise, reminding that, the reason for setting up the panel of enquiry was to douse tension, resolve the crisis and find a lasting solution to the problem to forestall future reoccurrence.

The group, which expressed confidence in the members of the panel said, if given the required cooperation, assistance and support, they are very capable of handling the matter satisfactorily because they are people of timbre and calibre who have made their marks in their various callings of human endeavours.

The group therefore seized the opportunity to enjoin members of the public to give the panel the maximum support and cooperation required to make its task of resolving the matter easy and time saving, saying, the quicker the resolution the better for the country that needs time for rebuilding damaged facilities and putting the economy back on track.
