A Non-Political Organization (NGO), Peoples Independent Political Action (LIPA), has given reasons while an end should be put to the protest against continuous retention of the a Police Unit named Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), saying, the protest has over stayed its usefulness.
The NGO in a release signed by its Coordinator, Miss Abisola Ilesanmi, pointed out that, the protest has achieve the goal it was aimed at achieving, the authorities, which attention was drawn to the atrocities of the squad have taken actions by disbanding the dreaded Unit.
The group raised a concern that mobs are taking over the protest and strange elements are beginning to incite the populace against the government in a manner that could rupture the fragile peace in the land, asserting, “this is why we are calling for an end to the protest otherwise we may be compelled to come out forcefully to defend the gain of our democratic struggle because Lagos is a Liberated Zone.”
The group wondered what else do the protesters want after the scrapping of SARS if they were not out for hidden agenda after making their points that prompted the authorities to act accordingly, pointing out that, that is the more reason there is the need to bring this phase of the agitation to a closure.
Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu was commended for his courage and thoughtfulness for squeezing out time out of very tight schedule to come out to receive and listen to the protesters and convey their demands to President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja, the seat of power.
Against this backdrop, the organization was of the conviction that, it was high time the protest was dropped and agitation for more profitable policies for the welfare of the citizenry was brought up to the fore, warning that nothing should be done to distract the focussed governor from his duty post where he is sweating to make life better for all and sundary.
LIPA therefore seized the opportunity to condole and sympathize with the families of the dead and the injured victims of the protest just as it prayed for the repose of the departed and quick recovery for the wounded.
