A pro-democracy organization, the Royal People’s Platform, has said that, nomination of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State for an International Award, is a well-deserved one saying, “it is however not a surprise to us.”
The leader of the group, Prince Dare Aladekoba, in a release in Lagos Thursday said, “we are not surprised because Governor Sanwo-Olu has attracted Awards and commendations to himself locally and internationally due to his glaring performance in office in a very short time.
Aladekoba reminded that his performance, especially during the high tempo of coronavirus pandemic in the world, two international bodies, the World Health Organization (WHO), and the United Nation (UN), commende Sanwo-Olu as a Messiah that safe his country a lot from recording high rate of fatality.
According to him, the way and manner he tackled the monster at the entry point to Nigeria went a long way to impede its accelerating speed into the hinterland, saying, “the governor has proved beyond a doubt that, he was ready well prepared for the office before he was elected to occupy it.”
However, the group commended the organizers of the Awards for spotting the performing administrator for a distinguished international award along with other personalities of timber and calibre across the globe, saying, Sanwo-Olu’s case has proven the dictum that a golden fish has no hiding place.
Recall that, Health, Environment and Safety (HSE), Professionals/Practitioners for the Africa Safety Award for Excellence (AfriSAFE) 2020 ICON of the year, has nominated Governor Sanwo-Olu, among others for the Award.
The Chairman, AfriSAFE Board of Governors, Rear Admiral S. A. Olukoya, has said that Sanwo-Olu and others were nominated for being proactive in Africa’s quest for survival in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic that ravaged the whole of the world.
Also, the Chief Coordinator of AfriSAFE, Femi Da-Silva disclosed that the nominees were people identified to have exhibited a high standard of leadership that were able to implement strategies that helped to reduce the negative impact of COVID-19.
The ICON Award of the year category, it is said to be one of the AfriSAFE’s award categories, dedicated to recognising government leaders with the best response to the COVID-19 pandemic across the globe.
The group also expressed excitement that, Sanwo-Olu has further convinced the Lagos people that their last year mandate given to him was not a misplaced political calculation, expressing the need to further give the governor maximum support and cooperation to ensure more dividends of democracy to come.
