Nigeria’s equities market closed the week on a record high on Friday, with total market capitalisation rising to N162.16 trillion, its highest level ever.
The record close came as the NGX All-Share Index (ASI) advanced by 1.42 per cent, gaining 3,489.18 points to close at 249,804.56 points, compared with 246,315.38 points at the previous close.
Market capitalisation increased by about N2.27 trillion, from N159.89 trillion on Thursday.
Trading activity remained strong, with more than 520 million shares exchanged in 44,239 deals during the session.
The rally was supported by gains in several major stocks, particularly MTN Nigeria Communications, which rose 9.20 per cent from N815 to N890 per share.
C&I Leasing and FTG Insurance led the gainers, each rising 10 per cent to close at N5.50 and N1.65 respectively. Mutual Benefits Assurance also gained 9.09 per cent to N3.60, while Wema Bank advanced 9.03 per cent to N32.
On the decliners’ chart, Transcorp Power fell 9.96 per cent to N178, while Cadbury Nigeria declined 9.32 per cent to N53. Omatek Ventures dropped 8.40 per cent to N1.20 and Sovereign Trust Insurance shed 6.78 per cent to N2.20.
The record close extends the NGX’s strong run, with the market continuing to post fresh highs as investor activity remains elevated.
