Troops of the Nigerian Army have successfully foiled a coordinated midnight assault on communities in Chibok, Borno State. More than 300 terrorists launched the attack from multiple directions around 2:50 a.m., but were swiftly repelled by troops of the 28 Task Force Brigade through timely intelligence, tactical manoeuvres, and superior firepower.
The soldiers, already on alert, detected early movement and immediately took up battle positions. A fierce exchange of fire followed for over two hours, during which the troops firmly held their lines and prevented any breach into the surrounding towns.
At daybreak, the attackers began retreating in disarray toward the Azir axis leading into Sambisa Forest, attempting to cross the Damboa–Biu supply route. In response, the 25 Brigade moved into pre-planned ambush positions near the Azir Bridge to intercept the fleeing terrorists, supported by surveillance from an Army unmanned aerial vehicle.
The Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai also deployed a Super Tucano aircraft. As ground forces advanced, the terrorists scattered, and troops disrupted their withdrawal. No personnel or equipment was lost during the operation, highlighting the readiness and professionalism of the forces involved.
Exploitation operations around Chibok are ongoing, and the Army says efforts are being intensified to track down the escapees and restrict their movement. Footage capturing the mass retreat of the terrorists has been secured and is currently being analyzed to guide further action.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the nation’s territorial integrity and ensuring the safety of all citizens.
