It was a colourful and heartwarming Monday, September 15th, in Mosan-Okunola Local Council Development Area (LCDA) as pupils trooped back to school for the new academic session. But this resumption was unlike any other. Their excitement was met with fresh notebooks, renovated classrooms, modern toilet facilities, and the reassuring presence of newly deployed security guards, all courtesy of the Executive Chairman, Hon. Akindele Adunni Opeyemi.

In a rare display of humility and motherly warmth, Hon. Akindele, clad in replicas of the pupils’ uniforms, personally led the distribution of ten notebooks each to every child across all four public primary schools: African Church Primary School, Akinogun; Abesan Primary School; Estate Primary School; and Housing Estate Primary School.

She was joined by her Vice Chairman, Hon. Akintola Falade; the Council Leader and co-legislators; Chief of Staff, Hon. Falope Tolutope; the Council Manager and Treasurer; NULGE executives; top management staff; and other officials who witnessed the touching gesture.

The chairman’s interaction with the pupils was a sight to behold. She sang, danced, and played with them, even hosting a quick quiz where winners received cash prizes.

The new session in Mosan-Okunola has not just begun with learning. It has begun with hope, renewed confidence, and a practical demonstration that leadership can indeed be about service.

True to her campaign promise, Hon. Akindele demonstrated once again that education is not just a priority on paper but a mission she holds dear. “As a teacher and an educationist, I must make sure that the school environments are conducive, the teachers are comfortable, and the pupils are confident that they are going to school.

“During my chairmanship campaign, when I visited the schools, I met classrooms and toilets in a dilapidated state. Many of the pupils had no writing materials, and I vowed within myself that if I became chairman, I would change the narrative.

“On the first day of resumption for the 2025/2026 academic session, I ensured that each pupil received ten notebooks. I am very pleased with the new atmosphere in the schools. The classroom blocks have been renovated and roofed, while the toilets are now in good condition. I will provide furniture for the newly renovated classrooms once the work is fully completed.

“I was deeply touched and emotional when one of the pupils prayed for me after seeing the improvements on resumption day. Their toilets had been an eyesore and the classrooms were in terrible condition before they went on vacation,” she enthused.

Akindele urged parents to ensure punctuality so pupils would not miss core subjects like English and Mathematics, while also charging teachers to treat pupils with the same care they give their own children.

“I want to urge parents to ensure that their children get to school on time so they don’t miss the two most important subjects, English and Mathematics. We have played our part, and the parents too must support us by doing what is expected of them.

“Teachers are also parents, and I encourage them to take proper care of the pupils entrusted to them, just as they would their own children,” she averred.

Her efforts drew praise from teachers across the schools. Headmistress of African Church Primary School, Mrs. Ososanya Mary Bose, described her as “a promise keeper,” saying: “What happened here today is the fulfillment of her promise. We are very proud of her.”

At Housing Estate Primary School, Headmistress Mrs. Aboloyinjo Folake Alaba commended the council boss for renovating classrooms and toilets, fumigating the school, and providing security guards.

“She has been very good to us since she was elected. We want to say a very big thank you to her,” she said.

Assistant Deputy Education Officer of Abesan Primary School, Mrs. Ibraheem Safurat Bisi, noted that some pupils resumed without writing materials but left with ten notebooks each.

“She renovated our toilets that had been abandoned for over ten years and provided security guards. We are so happy,” she said.

Similarly, Head Teacher of Estate Primary School, Mrs. Arowolo Comfort Feyisayo, said she had never witnessed such transformation in her career.

“Her donation of notebooks is a promise fulfilled. She renovated the abandoned blocks of classrooms and sixteen toilets. We are rejoicing,” she said.
