The Federal Ministry of Transportation has inaugurated its Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) to foster accountability and strengthen the fight against corruption within the ministry and its agencies.
The inauguration ceremony, held on Tuesday, July 26, 2025, in Abuja, was conducted in collaboration with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
Speaking at the event, the Director overseeing the Office of the Permanent Secretary (DOOPS), Musa Ibrahim—represented by the Director of Special Duties, Dr. Vivian Nwosu—said the launch underscores the ministry’s commitment to integrity, accountability, and transparency in government operations.
“The ACTU Unit is set up to play a vital role in promoting compliance and preventing corruption within our Ministry and its Agencies. They will be the champions of our integrity efforts, ensuring that our policies and procedures are implemented effectively and that any potential risks are identified and mitigated,” Ibrahim stated.
He added that the officers are expected to design and implement anti-corruption strategies, develop codes of ethics, raise staff awareness, investigate corruption-related issues, and collaborate with relevant stakeholders to entrench a culture of transparency. He also assured that the ministry would provide the necessary resources, training, and access to information to enable the Unit function effectively.
Representing the ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, the Head of Systems Study and Review Division, Mr. Jude Okoye, noted that ACTU serves as an internal mechanism to detect systemic weaknesses and enforce ethical standards across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
Okoye emphasized that ACTU would complement the management of the ministry in achieving its vision of developing a world-class, safe, and efficient transportation system. He highlighted its roles, including staff sensitization, corruption risk assessments, and recommending solutions to vulnerable processes.
The newly appointed ACTU Chairman, Mr. Nasiru Abubakar, expressed gratitude for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to lead the unit with transparency, integrity, and teamwork. He called for the cooperation of all staff to achieve the Unit’s mandate.
